Lamu baskets
These baskets are handwoven by skilled artisans in Matondoni, a village in Kenya's Coast Province. Lamu baskets are basic, timeless, practical and will last for a very long time. Meet Omar and his family, weaving our Lamu baskets in his garden.
Palm leaves are sourced locally, dried and sliced into thin strips which can then be woven into baskets, mats and other everyday household items. In the palm fringed village, weaving is done by both men and women and is not only a source of income but also a social activity.
